– 2 packages shortbread cookies  – 1 ¼ sticks unsalted butter  – 30 ounces Werther’s Originals Chewy Caramels – ¼ cup heavy cream – 3 cups semisweet chocolate chips

How to Make Homemade Twix Bars

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Prepare a 9×13 baking dish by lining it with parchment paper.

Transform the shortbread cookies into fine crumbs using a blender or food processor. In a mixing bowl, combine the shortbread crumbs with the melted butter.

Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, pressing firmly to create an even crust. Bake the crust for approximately 20 minutes, until golden and set on top. Allow to cool on a wire rack for 30 minutes.

In a separate bowl, combine the Werther’s Originals Chewy Caramels with the heavy cream. Microwave this mixture for 2 minutes, then stir. Continue to microwave in 30-second increments until the mixture is completely melted, stirring between each increment.

Pour the caramel over the cooled crust, spreading evenly. Refrigerate for 10 minutes to allow the caramel to harden.

In another bowl, melt the semisweet chocolate chips in the microwave using 30-second increments, stirring until smooth.

Pour the melted chocolate over the hardened caramel layer, spreading it evenly. Refrigerate for another 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden.

Once set, with a hot knife cut the dessert into bars and serve.
