Why You Will Love This Recipe
- The best homemade soft sugar cookies make the “crust” for these mini fruit pizzas. Sure, you can use pre-made cookie dough, but this way is less expensive and much more delicious!
- Individual serving sizes mean that this dessert is simple to serve. The traditional fruit pizza needs to be cut up and put on plates after dinner, but fruit pizza cookies are “grab and go”.
- It’s sort of healthy! Adding fruit to cookies doesn’t negate the fact that you’re eating a cookie, but it does give the cookies a fresh, healthy flavor.
Key Ingredients
The base for fruit pizza cookies is a soft, simple drop sugar cookie recipe. Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
Complete list of ingredients with quantities and instructions is located in the recipe card below
- Eggs: For this recipe, we need one whole egg and one separate egg yolk. Be sure to let your eggs come to room temperature before mixing up the cookie dough. They mix in much easier that way.
- Butter: Unsalted butter, also at room temperature, gives these cookies the perfect amount of richness.
To turn these cookies into fruit pizzas, they’ll get a layer of my homemade cream cheese frosting, which requires these ingredients:
- You can find more details about this cream cheese cookie frosting recipe in my separate post about it, but it’s really a very simple mixture of cream cheese, butter, vanilla, and powdered sugar!
Finally, You’ll need some fruit to top the fruit pizzas! Any kind of fruit will work, but I like to make sure I create pretty rainbows on each individual cookie. Try green kiwi, red strawberries, blueberries, and mandarin orange segments.
How To Make Sugar Cookies for Mini Fruit Pizzas
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat silicone baking mat. Then, in a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set it aside.
- Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a separate mixing bowl, with a hand mixer, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, and beat again.
- Finish the Dough and Bake: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients a little bit at a time, mixing after each addition. You may need to finish mixing by hand if the dough gets too thick for your mixer. Use a medium (2 tablespoons) cookie scoop to drop the dough onto the lined baking sheet, and bake for 11-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. Cool the cookies completely on wire racks.
- Make the Cream Cheese Frosting: Cream together the softened cream cheese and butter on medium speed until well blended. Then add the vanilla extract and salt. Add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, and mix on low until all of the powdered sugar is incorporated.
- Frost the Pizza Cookies: Spread frosting over each cooled cookie. There is enough that you can be generous with it!
- Add the Fruit Toppings: Arrange fruit pieces on the frosting to create your mini fruit pizza cookies!
Top Tips
- If you’re using oranges, it’s best to remove the membrane from each segment. Canned mandarin oranges also work perfectly here.
- Cut the fruit into small pieces so that you’ll be able to put multiple types of fruit on each cookie without over-topping them.
- Other toppings, such as slivered almonds, shredded coconut, or sprinkles can also be added.
- Be sure to let the cookies cool before frosting them. Cream cheese frosting will melt right off of warm cookies!
- I tinted some of the frosting pink for fun, and you can too!
- If you’d like to take a shortcut, feel free to make this recipe with refrigerated cookie dough. While the cookies won’t be quite as good, they’ll still taste great with this homemade frosting.

Variations/Storing
Store fruit pizza cookies in the fridge to keep the cream cheese and fruit fresh! These are best enjoyed the same day that you decorate them, as the fruit will start to soften.
You can bake the cookies up to 3 days ahead of time. Keep them in an airtight container until you’re ready to decorate them with the cream cheese frosting and fruit pieces.

FAQs
You can make the cookies and the frosting ahead of time, but I suggest that you don’t frost or decorate them until shortly before serving. The fruit will start to lose its freshness as soon as it’s cut.
Try fresh pineapple, blackberries, diced melon, or pomegranate seeds! Anything goes when it comes to this recipe, so use your imagination, and be sure to include fruits that you and your family enjoy.
